Join us for the first Sustainability lunch-hour Zoom presentation of 2024 on Thursday, January 11th! We will hear from Leticia Midoes, a recent Endicott College graduate, who was a member of the 2023 Endicott Team that took home first first place in the Department of Energy National Hydropower Collegiate Competition for their case study title, Living with Water, Sustainability and Resiliency in Lawrence, MA.

About the Winning Case Study: A team of students from the schools of architecture, applied math, marketing, and engineering studied ways of re-engineering the water power supply of Lawrence, MA. They examined the aspects of FERC permitting renewal for Lawrence’s major operating hydro facility and investigated avenues to revitalize the south canal while simultaneously rebuilding unused properties connecting the canal to Merrimack River.  This project was designed to highlight the current social, environmental, and financial needs of this gateway city. Lawrence has been a hot market for “outsiders” with the new repurposed factories turned into living spaces. While Lawrence residents often get pushed out into unideal living conditions, the team's design incorporates multi use complex with affordable housing, businesses, and day care center hoping to bring more movement to the city.

About our Speaker: Leticia Midoes was born and raised in Brazil, where she graduated in civil engineering with a minor in technology of civil construction.  She graduated this past May from Endicott College with a degree in General Engineering. Her class contributed to the major’s new ABET accreditation while preparing the students by introducing all fundamental concepts of engineering, while also exposing different concentrations, such as chemical, civil, structural, mechanical, environmental, etc. During her time at Endicott, she was elected president of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE Endicott Chapter) and also got involved with the Habitat for Humanity projects.
