Join us for the Sustainability Forum's next lunch-hour Zoom on Wednesday, November 8th to discuss Sustainable Waste Practices with Mara Shulman, Senior Attorney, Conservation Law Foundation's Zero Waste Project.
At the Conservation Law Foundation (CLF), our Zero Waste Project strives to protect New England communities and our environment from the dangers posed by unsustainable waste practices. These dangers include gross overproduction of single-use plastics leading to a global plastic pollution crisis, toxics in our consumer products that are pumped from our landfills into our waterways and into our air from incinerators, as well as greenwashed waste management strategies like so-called “advanced recycling.” Currently, our waste management systems in New England rely on landfills and incinerators that threaten our health, our communities, and our environment. CLF’s Zero Waste Project aims to change that.
Our Speaker: Mara Shulman is a Senior Attorney for CLF’s Zero Waste Project. In this role, she works to advance CLF’s Zero Waste advocacy, litigation, and legislative work in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Prior to joining CLF, Mara advocated on the behalf of young people, first as a court-appointed delinquency attorney and later as a mental health and special education advocate. She completed a graduate studies degree in Sustainable Development at the School for International Training and graduated from Western New England University School of Law as a Public Interest Scholar. As someone deeply committed to advancing positive change and resolving conflict through collaboration, Mara has completed advanced training in alternative dispute resolution strategies, such as mediation, nonviolent communication, and restorative justice.
