Cascade Eco Minerals was formed in 2017 by partners with a history in recycling and material processing to focus on end-of-life solar modules. The minerals in question are obtained from the glass which is removed from the modules in the recycling process. Solar glass on its own has little value as a commodity, but it can be blended with minerals obtained from other streams of glass to make it into more valuable recycled glass cullet.
Cascade is gearing up for the upcoming wave of solar modules that is anticipated in the coming years. As more and more modules reach end-of-life this issue is only going to grow and setting up appropriate infrastructure now is vital to smoothly decommissioning systems down the road.
This discussion will cover the history of Cascade and our partner company Dlubak Specialty Glass. Along the way we will go over the basics of the recycling process. The different downstream markets are discussed, and examples of industrial uses are cited. Finally, the discussion will touch on the potential consequences of not pursing solar module recycling.

Chris was born and raised in Vermont and entered the solar industry in 2006. Since then he has been fortunate to travel the world to discuss solar applications in various roles. Chris is the newest member of the team at Cascade Eco Minerals and he brings his knowledge of the industry and a passion for responsible recycling. Chris lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife Madeline and enjoys photography, hiking and travel.
