2017: The Economic Opportunities We Have Never Seen Before – Changing World Views Have Occasioned Unique New Trends
Much if not most post-election journalism has focused on the central reality show character who pulled off the greatest upset in American political history. The focus is misplaced and mislabeled. The recent election is not about Trump, nor is it about populism. It is bigger than both, in this country and worldwide. Trump, and now President elect Trump, is not the messenger. He is simply the message that has taken hold and is reverberating around the world.
The economic implications are staggering in excitable reaction, fear, and enormous opportunities. The year ahead will be like none we have ever seen. 2016 began with a panic on Wall Street which most have forgotten, as life returned to what most considered normal. 2017 will unfold with similar concerns, but for different reasons, and will not return to any traditional notion of normal. Much is now known about the landscape ahead, two observations in particular. First, the economic year that was will never be again. The once established, familiar, and mainstream have been changed forever. Second, what has been ushered in is the new New. Those who understand the depth and scope of this trend, which includes fulfilling needs of society that have not been met in the past quarter century, will reap the rewards.
