CEO and Co-Founder Michael Koeris will present Sample6’s technology and its ambitious goal of revolutionizing food safety.

Guaranteeing that the food that is available for sale is a primary concern for any society, and many safeguards have been put into place to assure that the food supply is not tainted with dangerous microbes. Testing for biological contamination is expensive and time consuming, delaying the time to market, reducing freshness and increasing costs. Imagine if an alarm would “light up” during production to indicate that production had become tainted. That is what Sample6 technology promises to enable.

Company: Sample6

Sample6 has developed the world’s first enrichment-free pathogen diagnostic system. Our revolutionary technology; the Bioillumination Platform™, developed by Professor Tim Lu (MIT) and Dr. Michael Koeris, utilizes synthetic biology to target bioparticles and “light up” specific unwanted bacteria. Through this technology, we are able to detect a single cell in hours instead of days.

The challenge in pathogen control is quickly and effectively processing samples. When the Bioillumination Platform™ is applied to samples, we convert pathogens into light. During the initial experiments, the method could detect as few as 6 cells without enrichment. Now single cell detection is possible. As the number 6 seemed like a lucky number, the company brand was built around it. Sample6 – Working to make food safer.
