From Bio-Threat Detection via Dog Pee to Taking it Public
August 2 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm$15
Jack Regan, LexaGene’s Founder and CEO, will hold a fire-side style chat (with some accompanying slides) regarding the trials and tribulations of starting a company. His stories will cover his work experience at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he helped develop automated bio-detectors for bio-threat surveillance for the Department of Homeland Security’s BioWatch Program as well as other instruments to detect respiratory pathogens at a local hospital.
After his work at the National lab, he will recount failed efforts to start a company to commercialize a technology that he believes fills a critical gap in rapid pathogen surveillance for natural pathogens such as avian influenza that may cause the next pandemic. After years working to start this company with no success, he will discuss coming to terms with a dream that he just couldnt will to come true…only to have the dream get rekindled years later.
He finally started the company by executing a reverse take-over of a publicly traded company on the Canadian stock exchange. He achieved this despite having no employees and practically no cash. Over the following 2 1/2 years, Jack has grown the company and it now employs 21 talented individuals. The Company will soon be commercializing an automated instrument to rapidly detect pathogens responsible for causing canine urinary tract infections and many other cool genetic targets.
