 Biomedical Technology Section

The Biomedical Section includes NSTC members from biotechnology and medical device companies as well as members who provide important services to this sector.  Members of the Biomedical Section are addressing the needs of this growing interest group by:

  • Assisting with production of the programs in the NSTC Business Breakfast Series that are on life sciences topics
  • Producing the First Friday Bioscience Seminar Series, a monthly noontime program featuring the R&D of North Shore companies
  • Supporting the development of a biotech incubator on the North Shore, the Biotech InnoVenture Center, to help innovative early stage companies succeed

North Shore InnoVentures
North Shore InnoVentures (NSIV) is a non-profit corporation established by the leadership of NSTC and the Biomedical Technology Section. NSTC is a founding sponsor of NSIV.  The NSIV mission is to operate business incubators intended to foster innovation, accelerate growth of early-stage companies and advance economic growth of the North Shore region.   The Cleantech InnoVenture Center opened in Lynn, MA, in October of 2009 and the opening of the Biotech InnoVenture Center in Beverly,MA, is planned for 2010.

The growing funding gap for early-stage companies is increasingly a barrier to start-ups. North Shore Inno Ventures is addressing this problem by fostering development of early-stage life science and cleantech companies using a business incubation model, accelerating development to the point where sufficient investment for sustained independent operation becomes obtainable. All resident companies will have access to extensive support systems focused entirely on turning breakthrough technologies into thriving businesses.

The Biotech InnoVenture Center (BIVC) is closely associated with the NSTC Biomedical Technology Section, from which most of the incubator’s volunteers, mentors and advisors are drawn.

The Cleantech InnoVenture Center (CIVC) is associated with another NSTC interest group, the Sustainability Forum, which is comprised of members interested in cleantech and alternative energy development efforts in the region.

If you have an early-stage life sciences or cleantech company and you are interested in learning more, please visit the NSIV website at www.nsiv.org.
